What are chinos?

The chinos are perfect for your everyday wardrobe, somewhere between casual denim and dress pants. If you are unfamiliar with chino pants, it’s a five-pocket twill pant with a slightly dressy touch. The beauty of chinos is that they’ll go with literally anything and come in various colors and materials.

Which material are chinos made of?

Chinos were originally military trousers that gained popularity during the Spanish-American war and then later commercialized. The Spanish word “Chino” translates to “China” and refers to the sturdy and long-lasting cotton twill fabric from China that chino was made of.

The modern chino you see today is often mixed with synthetic materials to add extra stretch and comfort. But there are still some 100% pure cotton twill chinos out in the market, and our fabric Wales is one of them. Wales is available in classic colors like black, navy, and khaki.

Besides Wales, you’ll find three other chino fabrics at Tailor Store, all with different looks and feel.
- Bennet is a twill mix of cotton and lyocell. A flexible and smooth weave makes the fabric super comfortable and one of our favorites. Bennet is the go-to pants for casual settings.
- To avoid that pool of leg sweat when the temperature rises, we prefer a lightweight and breathable fabric such as our Dayton. The materials are light, airy, and stretchy, perfect for spring or summer.
- For chilly days and fall vibes, Durham takes the win. Durham is a heavy cotton stretch fabric available in black and navy.
